ZAKER Harbin 11-14 One person riding a one ton carbon reduction bike "China Story" at the United Nations Climate Change Conference
Author:
In recent years, many places throughout the country have continuously optimized the slow travel environment and increased the proportion of green travel. The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that we should accelerate the green transformation of the development mode, implement the comprehensive conservation strategy, develop green and low-carbon industries, advocate green consumption, and promote the formation of green and low-carbon production and lifestyle. This year, the Publicity and Education Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, together with the United States Mission, launched the "one ton carbon reduction by cycling by one person" action to encourage more people to travel in a low-carbon way. Up to now, more than 500 people across the country have achieved the small goal of one ton carbon reduction by cycling.
In March this year, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a resolution calling on Member States to "integrate bicycles into public transport" to address climate change. The resolution encourages Member States to "pay special attention to cycling in cross sectoral development strategies, including sharing bicycle services". On November 11, Beijing time, as a representative of China's bike sharing enterprises, the delegation shared the "Chinese story" of bike sharing and e-bike carbon reduction at the United Nations Climate Change Conference.
China leads the world in the development and promotion of shared bicycles and electric bicycles. Since 2016, the popularity of shared bicycles and e-bikes has effectively remedied the pain points of short and medium distance travel and become an effective supplement to public transport. Nowadays, sharing bicycles and motorbikes have become a new trend of low-carbon life, covering counties and even towns from first tier cities.
It is estimated that the total number of shared bicycles and motorcycles in China has reached 22 million, providing 50 million rides for citizens in more than 800 cities every day. Among Meituan's e-bike users, 36% are the "new generation" of low-carbon travel. They have changed their previous commute mode dominated by private cars and more choose to share e-bike commutes.
